Howard joined the family owned agency in 1979 after graduating from the University of South Alabama. Working a summer in the agency while in High School, Howard was not sure he wanted to get into the family insurance agency.
Howard got married to his wife, Janet, in 1977, and they both graduated from South Alabama in 1979. It was during his senior year, after attending several job interviews, and talking to his managers at his employer, that he decided corporate life was not for him. At that time, he decided to join the family agency.
While working at a men’s clothing store, he learned a valuable lesson, never judge a book by its cover. One evening Howard waited on a customer who needed a new suit. When the customer left the store the customer purchased two suits, two shirts and two ties. He told Howard that he went to another store, and no sales associate approached him. He appreciated that Howard took time to welcome him and asked if he could be of service.
In 1979 Howard joined the agency and purchased the agency in 1994 from his parents. That was the year that his father passed away.
Like many fathers, Howard took active participation with his children in youth sports. However, he went one step further. He was on the Board of the Indianapolis Youth Hockey Association and was Vice President of The House Recreation League with over 700 youth hockey players and 2 ice rink locations. A few years later, he was founding President of the Fishers Youth Hockey Association.
Howard has been active with the Castleton Sertoma Club, a non-profit service organization. He has personally benefited from helping youth at their annual Christmas Cloth-A-Child Program to help fund needs of children with Hearing Impairments.
Howard has no plans on retiring from the business. Besides, his wife says she could not live with him 24 hours a day.
